HI! My name is Felix and I’m going to tell you why it is good to play basketball.
One great thing about basketball is that it teaches you life lessons! For example teamwork.
Teamwork is extremely important to learn (and that lesson can apply to other things besides basketball.) Basketball is one of those sports where you need to have good teamwork to win a game. Unlike tennis it is a team sport, so you can’t get anywhere before you are able to get to know your team. And if you don’t learn teamwork at all… well that would be a big problem, because basically everything has some teamwork needed in it.
Another important thing to learn so you are all set with those life lessons in your belt is trust among people and your teammates. If you play basketball you have to trust your teammates so 1: when you pass them the basketball they don’t throw it at your head. 2: so you know they can make the right choices to score a point. When you pass them the ball you have to just know and believe that they will do what you are thinking, and that is easier to believe when you can trust them. But trust also doesn’t only apply to basketball it applies to everything period.
Did you also know that when you play basketball your brain automatically makes connections with your teammates, like knowing their personality and stuff? Cause’ it does. Being with them, playing with them, and learning with them helps you be better friends which is like building connections. AGAIN this is a very important life lesson!! If you can’t see that basketball is the sport to choose then that’s okay because I have got 3 more reasons for ya!
Why choose basketball over OTHER sports? Is what many people ask. I have an answer.
My first reason is that you get the ball a LOT more being one of five compared to soccer. You are one of 11 or other sports 10-12! Are you one of those people on your soccer or football team that isn’t the best and you are tired of not getting the ball? Then switch to basketball! (and if you are the striker in soccer or the all-star runner for your team in football, good for you! Switch to basketball and then you will be something called a P-O-I-N-T G-U-A-R-D, or a S-H-O-O-T-I-N-G G-U-A-R-D.) It is so fun being in a smaller group and so even if you are the worst player on your team you still get the ball once or twice or even three times in the game! When in football you probably don’t get the ball the whole season! (but what do I know? I only play basketball.)
One other reason is that since the court is much more short than soccer or football or even hockey fields the game moves quicker. That can be more interesting because the game is constantly moving. Unlike soccer you are always passing shooting or dribbling. There are even rules to support that, like the shot clock! The shot clock makes it so that if you don’t shoot the ball in 24 seconds it’s the other team’s ball. And there’s also the 8 second violation, which is when if you don’t get across the half court in 8 seconds it’s a turnover.
My final reason is that there is an absurd amount of points scored in basketball! In soccer, what is 1 to 2 at the end of the game when they have 90 min plus extra time?! You only have 48 min in basketball and the scores are usually 109-114 ir 100-118. That way the fans are much more interested.
If you read this essay then you probably want to be on the court as soon as this stupid Cronavirus ends.
Catch ya’ in 5-6 months!
