Prologue

Lily is a curious, nice, fun, playful girl, she includes everyone and helps out around the house. She has long blond hair and green blue eyes. Her nose is always in a book. She is quite popular at school and never ever takes things for granted. The only thing that was very different about her is that her parents own a helicopter. Why? Who knows. They bought it after they got married. Whenever they are asked about it they always make a quick excuse to get away. That is the town mystery. Lily’s favorite book was called: 38 thoughts, it was about a girl who found out that she could read minds, her second favorite book was the Harry Potter series. Now, let’s take a look at Lily’s perspective…

Chapter 1

“Mama I’m leaving!” I told her I was on my way to school in Biana, (That’s what my parents call It) Even though I like how the ladder goes down  and the wind blowing on hot days, it is so loud so I can’t even talk to my best friends, well I do go to school and see them after the ride I guess… but still. “Daddy! I’m leaving!” He comes downstairs 

“Bye sweet angel” He gives me a big hug and I’m off to school. I walk up the stairs to the helicopter pad. When I walk in and hear a friendly and familiar voice saying 

“Howdy partner” 

“The Circus is out of town right now J” I joke. He and I have been doing that as long as I know, it’s our thing that I treasure it’s the one thing that never changes.  J, or Jim, flies  the helicopter. His australian accent fills the air as he tells me about his day so far. He’s about 25ish I think… Whenever i ask him how old he is he always says

 “You wouldn’t believe it if i told you” I always get confused about that. 

My parents met him at the place where they got the helicopter. As we fly to school Jim and I talk about what classes I have today and what quizzes I have, Jim even tells me a joke about mind readers. For some reason Jim is not really the same. He seems nervous like something special is going to happen today, I don’t think so, the only thing that is different is that all my letters that my pen pal wrote me mysteriously got thrown away. The helicopter is quick and we soon get to school 

“Bye” I smile 

“Bye, and don’t forget to ace those quizzes like always” he responds with a smile. I force a smile 

“Don’t worry I will” 

Chapter 2

As I walk into school I see my two friends.

“Hi Lily!” they both grin

“Hi!”  Their names are Keefe and Harry. 

“Did you hear we are getting a surprise field trip!!! You  know what that means? NO SCHOOL!” Keefe yells. Several heads turn our way. 

“Where are we going?” I ask

 “The beach” responds Harry. We line up in threes. Me, Keefe and Harry in line “These are your buddies, for the whole field trip stay with them” My teacher says. We all walk outside and guess who I see waiting for my group? JIM! 

“What are you doing here?” 

“I’m chaperoning your group.” He replies. So as me, Jim, Harry and Keefe walk along the beach I see something very peculiar: a rock. Not an ordinary rock, this rock is getting splashed  with waves but never getting wet. I tell the group.

“You’re right” observises Jim “Let’s take a closer look” 

All four of us race to get to the  mysterious rock. I get to it first. I  immediately noticed a door shaped thing carved into the rough gray surface.. 

“There’s a door” I tell the group “I’m going to open it.”. Harry who is still getting to us calls out “Ha funny Lily! We are not in one of those books you’re always reading.”

“No really Harry there is a door, I know it sounds crazy but really! Come check it out.”

“Ok. Fine!” Is Harry’s only response. When he comes over, he also sees the door. “Wow, i was not expecting that”

“Yeah, none of us did, It’s not everyday you find a door in a rock on a surprise field trip.” Responds Keefe.

“Ok lets go!” I say.

“Wait”  Jim whispers “You have to promise that you will listen to everything I say and bring me along. All of you”

 “Ok” we promise. The door opens at my touch. We look in, it’s pitch black, I get really scared. The next thing I know I am falling. 

Chapter 3

I crashland on something… soft? Wait, I’m not dead!  “Guys come down here” I yell up. 

I get off the pillowy thing that I landed on. “Are you sure?” Asks Harry

“No, I want to hurt my best friends” I laugh sarcastically

 “Come on! One at a time” First Keefe comes. He says he can see everything, but for me it looks like a cave. Next is Harry. He says he can see stuff behind the walls. Next comes Jim, He looks uncomfortable and says he is trying to hide something.. Wait!?! Why would he say that? 

“Why would you say that?” 

“What are you hiding?” 

“I didn’t say anything” answers Jim.

 “Yeah Lily he didn’t say anything, none of us did since we entered the cave” Says Keefe. 

So it turns out that i can read their minds when i tell them what i heard they are VERY impressed. I can not believe this, this type of stuff happens only in fiction books, at first i could not believe it. When I told them they felt the same way, they either thought that everyone could do what they could do, like there were lights on the ceiling or the walls were made out of glass. 

“Wait Jim what can you do?”

“I can see the cave’s past, present and future” He answers. Suddenly my parents fall from the sky, well not really, they fell from the door that we came through. “There you are, come on”  We all follow them. For some reason I can’t hear… “WOW” we emerge in a room full of little glass orbs. One shines so brightly that it pulls me toward it. Mom and Dad both study me, 

“Lily in this cave there are monsters” 

“But light always defeats the darkness” I finish. The line was from a poem my parents read to me every night. 

Chapter 4

My parents start walking away. 

“Wait where are you going?” 

“Home”  They said, as if there was a way out. 

“How?” I ask. 

“You will find out” surprisingly it is Jim who answers. So my parents start climbing up the wall, I try to follow but just keep falling down. 

“We need to listen to that glowing orb.” Jim says. 

“But I can’t see anything!” I fume. 

“I can, but there are so many walls it will be hard,” Keefe offers.

“I can  see behind walls but other than that it’s hard to see.” Answers Harry. 

“Great! So we have a plan” I exclaim. We all start walking towards the aria that Keefe and Harry are talking about. I keep listening to everyone’s thoughts. Jims knows something but I don’t know what, Harry is really excited for this “adventure”and Keefe is just thinking of cookies? Then my instincts take over my brain, my mind puts the pieces together. I see it now. I know how to connect our minds so we can talk. We reach the glowing orb I start to reach out. 

“Wait!” Keefe suddenly whispers. “What if it burns you?”

“Then we will just have to live with that” I answer. Mustering all the strength and bravery I have, I touch the orb. It does not burn insead it starts talking!

Chapter 5

“In this cave there are monsters,  but light always defeats darkness” The orb starts “Hush children for if you speak, light will never win again. Listen to me, a group of four will come to this cave by mistake. They will be the only ones to keep their powers when they leave, but the way out for them will be harder than anyone in the past, present, or future. All they need is one weapon” Then it suddenly stops. As quick as lightning I connect our minds. “Don’t talk!” I scream in my head “We need to get out of here. We need you to take the lead Keefe” In his head he was so confident that it knocked me back a step. I start walking fast. “We need to get to the exit!” Jim thinks.

 Ok so if i connected our minds right then everyone should have heard him, but I still need to make sure. After I make sure that everybody hears We all run to the exit or where we think the exit is, along the way Jim stops us He touches his hand  to a  jagged rock. “There, now there should be a ladder that we can climb up to get out of the cave”  He thinks.  We run harder and faster. Suddenly I see the ladder It looks like it is going to break any second. 

“Come on!!!” I think as I start to climb up. The ladder is so very slippery, I almost fall several times. Finally I get up the ladder. I start pushing myself up but then I realized how long we’ve been gone. It’s already high tide. The rock is covered with water and it starts flooding. I get up as  fast as I can.  quickly the rest of my friends climb up. We all are so relieved to be alive that I am happy even though I am soaking wet. 

After the story.

“Mama I’m leaving to go back to the beach” I yell. 

“Ok Lily.” She says coming down the stairs. I give her a big hug. My dad comes down too. 

“Bye daddy!”

“Bye!” He responds and pulls me into a hug. I walk up to the helicopter, there are my three best friends 

“What are you guys doing here?” I ask.

“We are coming with you.” They respond.
