Are women allowed to play professional baseball? Here is a quote by Mo’ne, “Throwing 70 miles per hour- THATS throwing like a girl.” I chose that quote because my essay is about girls/women in baseball and that is the title of my essay.

A lot of girls play youth baseball. But as they get older they stop playing, in high school around 1,400 still play, which means A LOT of them left. Justin Siegal is one person who is getting girls to play baseball. Justine Siegal sponsored the national girl’s baseball tournament in Rockford wich a lot of high school girls go to. She was the first woman to throw at an MLB batting practice. But part of the reason girls stop playing baseball in high school is because they aren’t any teams for them to go to that accept girls.

From 1943 to 1954 when all the men went to fight in the war, they got women to play professional baseball so people could keep watching baseball. Former cubs owner Philip .K was their coach. The Rockford peaches were the first professional women’s baseball team. When I flew to Rockford I got to meet two of the Rockford peaches and actor Megan Cavanagh who played Marla Hooch in a league of their own. They signed my metal and told me tips. I got to see them say a speech. One of the ones I met was the catcher for the Rockford peaches and that is the position I play, so she told me good tips about that. 

Over 100,000 girls play youth baseball right now. A lot of girls play baseball because of Baseball For All, an organization that gets girls to play baseball. So I did both. I was on those teams for a while, until 3rd or 4th grade I found out about bay sox. An all-girls baseball team. I go on big trips with them like Illinois, and long car rides to Berkeley. Now I play baseball with Baysox.

Should women be able to play baseball now? Yes, women should be allowed to play baseball right now because they played in the 1940s and 50s and they did great. But in the end, women are still not allowed to play baseball professionally currently.
