The Trip

The Vocab Crew was very excited about their vacation in Hawaii, but because of the coronavirus pandemic, Fickle Flux kept changing their vacation schedules. Fickle Flux first scheduled them to leave on April 1st, then changed the day to April 20th, then May 1st, and finally, he decided that he would just cancel the vacation. The Vocab Crew wished that they didn’t have to stay quarantined in San Francisco. They decided to drive to Santa Cruz to have a fun weekend all together since they couldn’t go to Hawaii. They were going to Santa Cruz because they had a house down there, and they also made that choice because Fickle Flux couldn’t decide where they would be going for their vacation instead of Hawaii. He kept asking them, “Where do you want to go? We can go to so many fun places!” even after they told him that they did not know. They were going to play games and swim in the pool all day!

The first night was very relaxed. The Vocab Crew left Ebullient Energy to play outside because right as they had got in the house, he saw the guitar and started strumming the strings very loudly, making an annoying scratchy noise. After they put him outside, he played wall ball. He was screaming, “Boom! Right into the wall!” at the wall as he played. The Vocab Crew played games during dinner, and Vehement Voice sang karaoke very passionately. He sang songs like “Believer” and “Warriors,” shedding tears as he yelled his heart out into the microphone. After that, they all watched a movie until sunrise. The second night, they ate sushi for dinner. Relevant Reader was talking all about how fish are caught and made into sushi, right as they were eating sushi. They all had a very fun night playing games, but Defiling Devil decided to ruin it by throwing the five-hundred-piece puzzle, which they had spent hours on, onto the floor and smashing it into pieces. It was a picture of a beautiful garden with flowers all around.

Defiling Devil was screaming, “I hate gardens! They are so tame and dumb!”

Clamorous Chatterbox exclaimed, “Everyone, I think we should go to bed. Defiling Devil is in a bad mood and we don’t want it to escalate!” Everyone listened to Clamorous Chatterbox and went to bed. They were all asleep when the phone rang.

Vehement Voice picked up the phone and woke everyone up when he Screeched, “Wait, what? There is a forest fire! Oh no!” He screamed so loudly that they all thought the house shook. Vehement Voice was on the floor, head in hands, tears flowing out of his eyes.

Clamorous Chatterbox was screaming at the top of his lungs in fear. He kept shrieking, “No, what are we gonna do? I don’t wanna burn to death!” The Vocab Crew had to evacuate the house.

Ebullient Energy was chanting, “Are we there yet?” for the whole car ride.

A few days later, the Vocab Crew returned to the house and, to their relief, it had not burned down! For once, Clamorous Chatterbox didn’t speak a word. They all stood there with a mix of shock and relief. Vehement Voice yet again was on the floor crying, but this time he was crying tears of joy. In the end, the Vocab Crew had had a rough, yet relaxing vacation in Santa Cruz.
