I am from getting ready for soccer once a week with my siblings to go across the street to a beautiful big green field where we can practice soccer all day long
And walking up to my door while I smell the scent of when you are in a car ride when you pass by an amazing smelling farm or a street corner where all they are selling is berries and fruits
I am from seeing the water change directions when the wind passes by it, like there’s nothing there to stop it
And the parked cars outside my window that have that unidentifiable powder that comes off of trees when it’s springtime and the trees are ready to change colors
I am from waking up to my sister/roommate yelling at me to get up and turn off my alarm and to start getting ready for school so she’s not late
And constantly being told to do my chores and clean my room when all I want to do is go outside and lay down and look up at the shining, shimmering sun
I am from the wind gushing across my face as I sprint down that field to get across the street back home so I am able to beat my siblings into the house
And the sweet scent of cake pops and desserts ready to be eaten by my whole family
I am from the burgers cooking on the grill outside with my mom chopping the toppings and seeing the smoke escape out of the grill
And the cheesy smell of the mashed potatoes cooking in the oven
I am from the juicy, delicious, fruit sitting in the glass bowl ready to be cut on the cutting board
And seeing the pasta getting stirred in the pot with the sauce sizzling next to it and the butter ready to be put in the toasty warm bread that just popped from the toaster
I am from getting to table set up to eat with all the food right in front of us, and my siblings already starting to eat
And the meat sizzling on the grill while i get the fresh toppings ready to be put on the juicy burger with the melted cheese then adding it all to the perfectly round bun
I am from every night sitting at the dinner table with my whole family, seeing the food on the on the table ready to be devoured
And the excitement of my determination to win when it’s family game night
I am from the intense games of horse derbies once a year, watching the race, hoping my horse is the lucky winner
And the suspense of waiting on Christmas morning for my parents to wake up so we could open up all of our presents and eat Christmas breakfast
I am from the loud and obnoxious yelling of my name from the opposites side of the soccer field at my game
And the different voices scream at the top of their lungs saying “Go!” and “You can do it!” after my team and I had just “hit the ball out of the park”
I am from playing Twister that’s imaginary on the floor so I don’t make any noises in the middle of the night as I walk into the living room to get a cup of fresh water
And the beautiful, enjoyable, fun days when I am able to just go out in my backyard to see the gracious water ruffling through the wind
This is where I’m from.
