At 9:26 AM on January 19th, 2021, a time traveler appeared in East Asia. He claimed to have come from 3093, over a thousand years ahead of us. He came with a time machine that he made sure no one got to touch or even look at. He requested to have a meeting with all of the countries’ leaders and presidents. He met the president of China, showed him the devices, and tested them in front of him. Xi Jinping told the other leaders that he was telling the truth. At that meeting, which took place in Paris, he told everyone that he had come with new technology that could control people. He only brought five of these devices and told us that we would have a lottery for them. He also told us that these devices could be used for pretty much anything from forcing people to tell the truth to controlling people to do things. The lottery would take place on March 1st. The public was told this a couple of days after the meeting. Many countries claimed they needed the device more than anyone else. The time traveler immediately removed all those countries from the lottery. That included Greenland, North Korea, Brazil, Venezuela, and Iran. Everyone on earth was excited for the lottery to happen. There were a lot of fireworks late into the night.
Twelve days later, the lottery began. This time all of the presidents and leaders gathered in San Francisco. There was a lot of security because they didn’t want anyone killed. All the leaders had to sign an agreement pledging that they would not use this opportunity to kill anyone there. Anyone who tried to hurt someone would be immediately neutralized and taken out of the lottery. No country took that risk besides Afghanistan’s president, who tried to kill Joe Biden. Joe Biden was not hurt, and they continued the event. It was being streamed to the public, and it had nearly a billion viewers.
The time traveler stepped up and said, “Hello ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to be here to present The Lottery.” The first country selected was South Korea. The time traveler took one box from the pile and handed it to Moon Jae-in, who took it and headed to his private jet to leave. He was very excited and opened the box in front of everyone crying with happiness. The second nation selected was Switzerland; Guy Parmelin took the second box and left. He was pleased as this was his first month in office, and he had already done something for his country. Many other leaders were losing hope in this lottery. The next country picked was Nigeria; Muhammadu Buhari was pleased and strode up to the box like he was the king of the world. There were two more boxes left, and everyone was uneasy. The next country selected was Afghanistan; unfortunately for them, they had already been disqualified. After that, Japan was chosen, and Shinzo Abe was extremely happy. He walked to the box and carefully took it, then strode off to his plane. The last pick was coming up, and everyone was super-tense. The last machine went to France; Emmanuel Macron was extremely pleased and skipped to the box, making everyone else jealous of him. The rest of the leaders were extremely disappointed and headed back to their planes with their heads down. Just like that, the lottery was over.
The time traveler stepped up again to address the crowd of leaders and said, “Thank you so much for coming everyone. I hope you enjoy these machines, use them wisely.” The time traveler went back to his time machine and disappeared. The world was still uneasy about how the leaders would use these devices. The time traveler was smiling as he traveled back to his original year.
