While Spider-Man is an amazing hero, Peter Parker still has to pay for school. He’s currently enrolled at the best school in New York City, Horizon High School. Peter still has to find a way to pay for tuition. When J. Jonah Jameson offers a large sum of money to whoever can get some half-decent footage of Spider-Man, Peter knows how to pay for high school.
Even though Peter knows that the footage is only being used as evidence that Spider-Man is a menace and a threat to society, Peter really wants to stay at Horizon High. He knows this might be his only chance to get the tuition money he needs, so he figures out a way to get footage of him/Spider-Man fighting crime. In his usual tech-related fashion, Peter builds a camera drone that follows him/Spider-Man around, recording Spidey footage along the way. When he thinks he’s worked out all the kinks, Peter suits up and swings off to fight crime.
“Hey, you, drop your weapons and let me thwip you.”
“Leave us alone or die, Spider-Man!”
“Well, then you leave me no choice.”
THWIP THWIP!
“Hey! Watch yourself web-head!” the crooks say angrily.
“Such amateurs,” Spidey says with a smirk. “You should learn a thing or two about committing crimes during your jail time, considering that I just called the police.”
“Not cool, man!”
“Here they are now. Be quiet you two,” he says, webbing their mouths closed.
“Put your hands up, and take off your mask!” the police yells.
“Yeah, you filthy bank robbers, stay where you are!” Spider-Man commands as they were frozen in terror. “Wait. You mean me too, don’t you?”
“Yes, we do! Now slowly walk over here with your hands up and surrender to us peacefully.”
Peter is confused. Why would they try to arrest me? The people wrapped in the webs are the criminals, not me.
“You have ten seconds, Spider-Man! Come peacefully now.”
“Thanks for the invitation, guys, but I’m kind of busy beating baddies.”
As he flees the scene, Peter (as Spider-Man) looks up to find J. Jonah Jameson ranting about how Spider-Man is a reckless, inexperienced fool who has no idea what he is doing. To Jameson, Spider-Man is a menace, even compared to the criminals he has just apprehended.
Peter rush’s home to check out the drone footage. When he gets home, Peter takes out the data drive and plugs it into his computer. To his surprise, the drone footage is immaculate.
Peter runs downstairs and right into his Aunt May, who is getting ready to cook dinner. Peter tells Aunt May where he’s going, and races to the Daily Bugle to hand over the footage to Mr. Jameson.
When Jameson sees the footage, he is as star-struck as Peter was when he had first saw the footage. He is amazed at the quality of the video and how close Peter had gotten to Spider-Man. After a lot of praise, Jameson casually hands Peter a check.
At first, Peter acts calm about being handed a check by the CEO of the biggest news organization in NYC. When he finally looks at the check, Peter’s hair shoots up. This is the largest sum of money he has ever seen by a good amount.
“Good job, kid. If you get more of this footage, you’ll be rich in no time!” Jameson says, as if Peter was his own son.
“Thank you, Mr. Jameson,” Peter says proudly. “I’ll try my best.”
Now the tuition money is rolling in, and all Peter has to do is be Spider-Man. Peter is in a dilemma though; by getting all this footage, he could pay for high school, but he is also giving Jameson more “evidence” that Spider-Man is a menace. At this point, everyone has seen Jameson ranting on the Jumbo-Trons all over the city. What should I do? Peter thinks, My friends at Horizon are more important than being Spider-Man, right? Peter is troubled. New York needs a hero, and Peter needs his friends, and with all the Spidey hate going on, Peter doesn’t know what to do.
Peter (as Spider-Man) decides to try to tune out all of the insults that were being hurled his way while he webs around, but when people start hurling objects, he has to act. Peter dodges the flying cans and papers, knowing that if he goes on the offensive, he will be seen as even more of a criminal.
From now on, Peter vows to make himself the best hero in the world.
