“Everyone deserves a second chance” This quote was said by Elaine lan Chao, she is an American Civil servant and an executive. Think about how you would feel if you had no place to call home and you lived on the streets with a cold and dirty blanket wrapped around you. Would you want an opportunity to try again?
I went to the SF MOMA and there was a new exhibit by a french photographer named Jean Rene. The exhibit Was black and white. Rene interviewed different people. All of the stories are different from each other . I read one that was really interesting to me. It is a mini story about a man who chose to be homeless because he thought it was too much work to be worrying about rent, taxes etc. Sometimes people are homeless not because they don’t have enough money or they didn’t pay their rent. Some people just think it is too much work to have a home. I think if it were easier to have a home then people would choose to have a place to live rather than not having a home. This man is an example of someone who chose to be homeless but many people don’t have that choice.
Everyone makes mistakes in life. Even the people who succeeded in life like, Walt Disney and Abraham Lincoln. We can often learn from our mistakes so we don’t make them again. Some people however, make mistakes and lose their homes. However, people lose their homes because of many different reasons. For example mental health issues including brain injury, Alcoholism, and addiction to drugs. Not everyone loses their home because of a mistake they’ve made. Usually people with a lot of money don’t have to deal with those situations. I have made a lot of mistakes in my life like messing up a drawing or breaking something. I have learned from them and now it doesn’t happen as often. I know these are small mistakes compared to paying rent or losing your job but I believe everyone deserves a second chance, no matter how big the mistake.
Many formerly incarcerated people are homeless. Formerly incarcerated, means you were imprisoned at some point in the past. In an article called ‘Nowhere to go: Homelessnes among formerly Incarcerated people’ It shows a rating chart among formerly Incarcerated homeless people. Out of ten thousand formerly incarcerated people. Over 250 people who have been in jail more than once are homeless. I understand that some people did really bad things and many people think that they don’t deserve a home but I believe everyone deserves a second chance. I think that when formerly incarcerated people get out of jail the government and the community should help them transition back into their community So they can find a home.
Many people are helping formerly incarcerated people transition into the community so they can help them adjust to a different life.
I understand that this is really important because many people have trouble figuring out how to live a different life after they have been in jail and they become homeless because they are not prepared.
Imagine twenty years from now and the homeless Issue is worse. Knowone knows how to fix it wouldn’t you want everyone to have a home? I think we should start fixing this problem now so everyone will have a home. Everyone deserves a home
