Living in a World-Wide Pandemic

I am from living in a world-wide pandemic at the young age of 12

I am from social distancing and double masking every day to stay safe

I am from people being joyful and ecstatic at the start of a new presidential era

I am from Kamala Harris making history for women and people of color

I am from a very liberal and weird-weathered city: San Francisco

I am from going back and forth between two houses, packing my stuff and later un-packing in a repetitive cycle;this is my norm

I am from living at my dad’s house in a delightfully quiet and sunny neighborhood

I am from living at my mom’s house in a gated neighborhood, all the houses looking alike

I am from a made bed and neatly put-out clothes ready for the next few days

I am from keeping a mental checklist of everything I need to do in my head

I am from always being ready to go 20 minutes before we actually need to go because of preparation the night before

I am from cereal with milk, crunchy waffles and French toast sticks that smell of cinnamon, for breakfast every morning

I am from having Bambino’s cheesy, thick-crusted, pizza every Sunday night

I am from going to the farmers market with my dad early every Sunday morning

I am from getting fresh fruit, challah and vegetables from different booths at the farmers market

I am from baking many scrumptious desserts at my mom’s house, the smell of freshly baked goods wafting through the air

I am from wanting to go to law school in the future

I am from getting a new Christmas ornament every year from Cole Hardware

I am from walking my dog every night with my dad whether it’s raining or the sun is setting

I am from visiting my grandparents in Riverside twice a year in the summer swimming in the pool and in the winter playing rummy-cup

I am from the sound of the ping-pong ball hitting back and forth every night

I am from riding the gondola in Aspen two times a year and looking out to see the mountains coated in white

This is where I’m from
