Incredulous Ivan woke up to the sound of his alarm clock beeping. “It’s 7:30 already, I don’t believe it!” he exclaimed, totally disbelieving. Ivan got dressed and shuffled to the kitchen. Murky, his partner, who was always unclear and made no sense, was already up and making eggs for breakfast. Incredulous Ivan noticed that Murky’s fur was looking nice and fluffy.
“I can’t believe your fur looks so silky,” he stated as he stroked it, unbelieving. “Which conditioner are you using? It smells like cinnamon.”
Incredulous Ivan asked this every morning because he was so doubtful and could not believe that Murky used the same one as he did. Murky only sighed, then placed an egg on his plate. Incredulous Ivan sat down with Murky on the couch and turned on the weather report.
“Warning, today will be very hot, it is recommended that you don’t wear a jacket,” the weatherman said.
Incredulous Ivan snorted, very dubious and unconvinced, “I doubt it, I will just wear my coat as always.” Then he finished his eggs and got ready for work.
Incredulous Ivan walked down the street, and people stared at his giant fur coat. It was a little hot, but he doubted that the weatherman was right. He made his way to the Detective Department Building, a briefcase in his hand. Incredulous Ivan reached the door, knocking three times, which was the super safe secret passcode he and Wary Winston had created. Wary Winston, who always showed caution or fear towards possible danger, opened the door and Incredulous Ivan walked in.
“Any new cases for us to solve?” he asked, suspicious.
“Actually,” Winston replied cautiously, “Yes,”
Incredulous Ivan gasped, “No, I can’t believe it!” He was very skeptical about this.
They sat down at their detective desks. “Little Ms. Annihilate and Patty Pelt have been going around town destroying things,” Wary Winston began carefully. Incredulous Ivan was so shocked he couldn’t breathe. “The police need us to trap them,” Wary Winston finished cautiously. Suddenly, their detective alarm started screaming.
“Oh no,” Incredulous Ivan said, “This means that there’s a big crime happening right now. I don’t think I can believe it!”
They checked their detective crime locator and found that the jewelry store was being broken into. “We need to get there right away!” Wary Winston exclaimed fearfully, just as Ivan gasped, “I can’t believe it!”
They jumped into their car and Ivan drove to the jewelry store. The whole time, Wary Winston was pointing out all of the dangers of the road and triple checking that the airbags were working.
They arrived at the jewelry store, but it was too late. Little Ms. Annihilate, who loved totally destroying things, and Patty Pelt, who would repeatedly hurl things, had already gotten away. The building was crumbling and its windows were totally shattered. Most of the jewelry was still there, luckily. “Oh good, I thought it might be scary if they were still here,” Wary Winston said, relieved that the danger was gone. Incredulous Ivan sighed, unable to believe it, then got back in the car.
When they got back to their headquarters Wary Winston asked warily, “Maybe we should make a plan.”
Incredulous Ivan thought about that for a second, considering. “I guess so,” he eventually decided. They both sat down at their desks and got to work.
“Oh my goodness!” Wary Winston said, holding out a piece of paper for Incredulous Ivan to see. “The criminals are moving in a pattern. The next place that they will strike is the bank. We have to put a trap there.”
Ivan shook his head, skeptical, “I don’t believe it, we will wait here and then catch them as they attack.” Wary Winston didn’t look convinced, but agreed anyway.
The next day it happened again. Incredulous Ivan and Wary Winston arrived but it was too late. The criminals had escaped once again. That night, Incredulous Ivan told Murky his problem.
“We can’t seem to catch the criminals,” he complained. “Every time we get close, they escape.”
Murky looked him in the eye, “Maybe you should believe what others say. If the facts show that you need to set up a trap somewhere, you should do it.” For once, Murky was making sense, instead of being unclear. Later that night, Incredulous Ivan thought about what Murky had said, then made up his mind.
“Wary Winston?” he asked, then said, “I’m ready to believe your plan.” Wary Winston looked shocked, then fearful, and then he nodded. “The next place that they will attack is the ceramics store. It has lots of tiny smashable things for them to destroy and throw at people.”
Incredulous Ivan nodded, he could believe that.
“So, how do we trap them?” he asked. Then they made their plan.
Incredulous Ivan and Wary Winston hid behind a large vase in the ceramics store. The two criminals entered the store, preparing to smash everything. Suddenly, a giant blob of slimy, cheesy, steaming pasta fell on them.
“Ah!” they screamed.
Ivan and Winston jumped out of their hiding place. “We caught you!” Ivan said, incredulous, but for once, with a good reason.
Incredulous Ivan and Wary Winston gave the criminals, Little Ms. Annihilate and Patty Pelt, to the police, and they were put into prison. They soon escaped, using some fancy pasta cutters, but Incredulous Ivan was still proud. Incredulous Ivan now knew that believing in things could be good. The next day, he smiled at the sun, believed Murky when he was told that they used the same conditioner, and listened to the weather report. From then on, Ivan, who changed his name to Credulous Ivan listened to others more and became a better detective.
