I’m in my car, picking up my dad. My mom all of a sudden screams, “You got in!” My mind swirled and twisted, “I’m going to try harder in dance, now and forever.” In the next few months, I got a better life. I was so coordinated, I rarely got cuts and bruises. I was so strong, I could push up with my brother on top of me (and he’s my size!) I was so healthy, I didn’t get sick as often as my old weak body did. I was a new and improved Saira.
Coordination is a skill that everyone has, just some people have it more than others. Dancers are some of the most coordinated people in the world! This is because in dance you use every muscle in your body which causes your brain to think “Oh! Now I can use this muscle to help me with this!” And BOOM! Coordination level up!. I even have proof that this works! One time I was riding down a hill and I went over my handlebars! But since I am coordinated I did a handstand which saved me from breaking my collarbone! People who are not dancers are more likely to get injured in cases such as mine, but dancers will be coordinated and their brain will know how to use specific muscles that will save them.
Strength is another important skill that dancers have. Dancers are some really strong people, not weight lifting strong, a different type of strong, one that applies to all muscles. Dancers are toned not muscley, this is because their muscles aren’t as strong as weight lifters, but they use more muscles so some are stronger. This is like string and rope, most muscles are like string in the weight lifter’s body, and some are like rope, vice versa in a dancers body. The weight lifters look super strong because the ropes are the most seen muscles. But in a dancers body, the ropes are muscles that most people don’t see. Dancers can be so strong but it might not be noticeable.
Dance is one of the most “Healthy” sports around! Let’s compare it to another sport, gymnastics. Gymnastics and dance are some of the most similar sports, but most people don’t know that there is a huge difference-muscle growth! Gymnastics stunts your muscles but dance lengthens them. Huge difference huh! Gymnastics is still a healthy sport but, who wants their muscles stunted? Dance is actually a form of physical therapy. It can actually heal the body. If you got an ankle injury, yes, you shouldn’t put weight on it but, stretching is a type of dance. Stretching heals. Dance can also injure you even more. If you already had a minor injury but you didn’t know and you kept on dancing, well it’s going to get worse. If you feel the slightest pain, don’t dance. A special thing about dance is you can basically do it during any injury. Unlike soccer, gymnastics, and many others, dance is a sport that you can do whenever, wherever(you can’t do dance if you’re paralyzed)
Dance is an important sport, and it shapes you. Even if you’re obsessed with baseball. There is still dance. Even if you’re obsessed with basketball. There is still dance. Dance is all around you, but nobody sees it. It heals you, it makes you happy, it is the one sport that benefits everyone.
