Siah walked out of her house to see a kid gasping at the news on his phone.
“Poor kid, little does he know all that news is fake,” said Siah.
Siah was on her way to work when she heard the radio station talking about NASA is saying they have discovered aliens on the moon. Another story says scientists have found booger-eating can cure diabetes. When Siah arrived to work she was greeted with a warm welcome from a man she had never seen before, he introduced himself as James and said he worked in the detective department.
“Nice to meet you, James, I’m Siah. I work in the tech department!” said Siah with a smile on her face. Siah reaches for her phone–she never goes a minute without her phone–to make sure the fake news is getting out. In a sudden flash, the power goes out and Siah is instantly overwhelmed by screaming all around her.
“My phone!” a man shrieked in the distance. Bang! Several cars crash into each other.
James runs out of his office and yells, “WHAT’S GOING ON?”
Hours pass without any phones coming back on until Siah hears someone say, “they’re back on!”
Siah rushes back to her office to get on her computer. She tries to open up iCare, the fake news software she controls. However, iCare was somehow deleted, so Siah can no longer control the news everyone sees on their phones.
Real news suddenly becomes available, which creates two sides in the state: one that doesn’t trust the real news and one that feels betrayed by their government. The betrayed begin to plan to protest against the government and destroy phones and other technology.
As protests pop up, Siah feels guilty for her career of spreading fake news. She thinks to herself, why did I ever do this? I should have stopped when I had the chance. Siah slowly raises her phone, lets out a yell of relief, and delivers a blow to her phone. Shards of glass explode all over her desk. Siah feels relief, but she knows there’s more to be done.
