The difference between baking and cooking
Baking is usually sweet things and baked goods! When most people think of baking they think of cake or cookies but that’s not all. There are so many different things that are considered baking and lots that are not. Baked things include croissants and pastries. Did you know that most people think that you bake a pizza? Well….. They’re wrong. Pizzas are actually cooked so you should say “I am going to cook my pizza” instead of saying “ I am going to bake my pizza.” Enough about Baking let’s move on to cooking. Cooking is savory things and dinner foods. I bet people cook for you every day. Most foods you eat are probably cooked. I love to bake and cook for my family! It’s so hard to choose if you want to bake or cook. Sooooooo why not do both? You can cook a meal and bake a dessert.
Cool facts
Did you know that chocolate chip cookies were a mistake? This was also before chocolate chips. It all started when… Someone decided to add chopped pieces of chocolate to their cookies. They thought the chocolate would melt and turn into chocolate cookies when they were baked. But it didn’t. These new cookies became so popular that they started making more of them. Since they were so popular they made chocolate chips a thing. That’s how chocolate chip cookies started. Crazy right? I have a few more for you. You probably think that sugar is just something to sweeten stuff. Well that’s not exactly true. Sugar is present in what you bake for more reasons than just sweetening. According to Lucky Peach Its role is to bind to the water, because it’s hygroscopic, meaning it attracts water and keeps it from the other ingredients. Too much sugar and the cookie crumbles. Too little and it’s hard as a rock. Just two more facts to go! Guess what!? Humans started cooking 1.8-2.3 million years ago. I wonder what food was like 1.8-2.3 million years ago? When you think of chopsticks you think of utensils right? Chopsticks were initially created as a cooking material, Not a utensil.

Baking and cooking for your community
If you can bake/cook for your community and people around you can be very helpful and happy. When your neighbor bakes you cookies doesn’t it feel nice, like someone cares about you. When you bake/cook for people around you it can make a difference. For example baking/cooking for someone who may not have enough money to buy great food. It can make an impact when you deliver food to them out of the kindness in your heart. Who doesn’t like homemade cookies? It feels really good when you do something nice to someone. It makes you feel like you are helping this world or at least your community. If you aren’t good at baking/cooking you can help out at a place that serves food to people(For example Saint Gregorys).
