Annoying Assumptions

“Grandpa?”

“Yes?”

“Do you still have stuff from when you were in the army?”

“Oh yes, three boxes to be exact.”

“Can I see it?”

“Can you? Of course you can!”

My grandpa comes back with a box. He sets it down, opens it, and pulls out four 10 inch poppers. What could that be?

“This is the list of all the shots I got before I went to vietnam.” os if answering my question.

“WHAT?!?!?!?! I thought you got like 4 but 54 is different!”

“Yes, make sure you know the whole story before you make assumptions.”

54 Shots!!! Why do they get so many? I thought that was insane, but I started to get interested in his career in the army. So I asked more Questions. I asked if he was still hot, and sure enough, he pulled out of a big box. He told me that he was a teletype operator.  He told me that he never had to shoot his rifle. My grandpa was doing his duty through 1967-1968. 17,713 people died during that time. I knew I used to think that words were just guns and explosions, and some  of that is true, But there is more. After I talked to my grandpa some more I realized that he was a teletype operator and thought he was very important to the world, but did not get recognized because he was not actually “Fighting”.

For my second story, I really just feel like people jumping to the wrong conclusion without seeing all the points of view is not good for others. One of the things I am currently learning about is Native Americans, focusing on who is telling the story and thinking about Thanksgiving and people actually don’t know how it happened unless you see all of the points of view. Like instead of believing lies you can ask someone who has no relatives and they know what happend. This is good because then you’re not assuming what happened, instead you can actually know what happened, or you have a pretty good ideo. An example is when the DAPL (Dakota access Pipeline) was being built, the builders decided to not build it through a city but make it go through o Notive american reservation.

My third story connects two the first two stories. It is when I start to realize that most stories about Thanksgiving are really inaccurate because they only have one point of view. Also some movies about words and romy’s leave out a lot of stuff, like work is not just nan-stop guns and battles, it is more sitting and waiting. Also they leave out important people like my grandpa, because his job was a Radio Man, but it was ane of the most important because he had to tell the front lines what was happening and what to do and he had to tell generals and VERY important people so they knew how attacks and stuff was working and hot even though he did not kill anyone, he helped people not die and help the war effort. A teletype operator Operates an teletype.

In conclusion, I believe assumptions are not good. Here is an example: Just imagine you doing your homework at recess and someone who is new to the school assumes you’re a nerd. But actually you just want to spend your night playing. Now if that person took the time to meet you, he/she/they would have seen the big picture and wouldn’t have made an assumption.
