Doctor Inundated was very overwhelmed. He was always very stressed because he was always inundated with too much to do. Every day Dr. Inundated ran around doing things for other people and doing stuff that needed to be dealt with. Doctor Inundated lived in a small house on the side of a cliff. In Doctor Inundated’s house, there was a very big bed, and a small kitchen with one small bathroom.
In Doctor inundated’s kitchen he had a list of things to be dealt with, including walking the dog, getting groceries, taking his car to get fixed, cleaning the house, saying hello and good morning to all of his neighbors and to the mailman (and many more chores).
Every day Doctor Inundated went over the list and examined what he had to do. So, when he woke up, he had a schedule. The first thing Doctor Inundated would do was check the long list of things that needed to be dealt with. He couldn’t help it! Every day he woke up inundated and couldn’t stop! Then, Doctor Inundated continued with his morning by eating a very minimum amount of food, putting on his work clothes, and rushing off to complete his chores. This obviously made Doctor Inundated very anxious and overwhelmed with the amount of things he had to do. But he had to go to work as well! This made him very late, VERY often.
Doctor Inundated was a doctor. He worked at the best hospital in his town, Retortville. When he got to work, hours after his shift was supposed to start, he never did what he is supposed to do. He tried, but he always ends up getting too stressed running around trying to help his patients. So, he never got anything done and ended up giving up.
One day, after completing all of his chores, Dr. Inundated rushed to work on his bicycle. On his long ride there, he thought of all of the things he had to do. Doctor Inundated had become very distracted and obviously overwhelmed with the amount that had to be dealt with. How could he do all of these things in one day?!—he wondered to himself for the thousandth time.
But when Doctor Inundated got to the hospital, his big mean boss pulled him aside into his office. What could this be for? he wondered to himself.
“So, Doctor Inundated, I am afraid to tell you that we have to let you go. We have noticed that you have been very distracted and overwhelmed at work, which leads us to believe you are not treating your patients with care. Unless you can show us differently before the end of the day, you will be fired,” he said.
Doctor Inundated was shocked. He left the room thinking, Well I try so hard to help my patients but I get too overwhelmed with my work! I am constantly inundated! What can I do to show them that I should keep my job? And just like that, Doctor Inundated thought of an idea! He decided to call over his friends to help. He called over his friends Ms. Copious, Senator Sullen, and Little Ms. Presumptuous. He told them what needed to be dealt with.
They agreed to come help him at the hospital and immediately, Doctor Inundated became much less overwhelmed than he had been before! Ms. Capricious was collecting an abundance of items from the hospital and carrying them with her everywhere she went, and Senator Sullen sulking everywhere and being moody, and Little Ms. Presumptuous was being a little bit too present (helping and even yelling at the patience while they were about to go into surgery and hopping around helping the nurses with IV and checking vitals). So, they ended up not being much help, but it was nice to have company and support.
After Dr. Inundated’s shift, his boss came up to him. Doctor Inundated’s boss told him that as long as he kept calm and treated patients with care, he could stay! Doctor Inundated was so happy!
Doctor Inundated began to realize that with help and teamwork he didn’t have to be so stressed and overwhelmed with so many things to be dealt with! He decided that from now on when he felt too overwhelmed he would ask for some help!
