Lavi$h Laila

It was a typical morning for Lavish Laila. Waking up at nine o’clock sharp, Lavish Laila sat up in her luxurious king-sized bed and waited for her breakfast to be served in bed. Lavish Laila heard a knock at the door. “Come in,” she said.

Lavish Laila’s cook walked in holding a plate of breakfast. “Good morning Ms. Lavish Laila,” said the cook handing Lavish Laila a plate.

“Good morning, Cook” Lavish Laila replied.

On the plate were two Belgian waffles, scrambled eggs, and three strips of bacon. “Mmmm,” Laila exclaimed as she took a bite of her food, “just the way I like it.”

Laila quickly finished her breakfast while sitting in her king-sized bed and watching TV on her 110-inch Ultra HD TV. She set her finished plate of food down and made her way toward her contemporary master bathroom to take a shower.

After a warm shower, Lavish Laila entered her walk-in closet to choose an outfit for the day. Lavish Laila decided on a wool black dress and a beige Burberry trench coat. Lavish Laila went to her shoe collection (that consisted of 100 pairs) and picked up a pair of expensive and chic high heels. Lavish Laila left her room and made her way down the stairs of her mansion.

Lavish Laila’s butler greeted her at the foot of the stairs. “Good morning, Ms. Lavish Laila. Your limo is waiting for you,” said her butler.

“Thank you, Butler,” Lavish Laila replied grabbing her Valentino purse. Then, Lavish Laila made her way towards her garage.

Lavish Laila hopped in her limo. “To my company, please,” Lavish Laila announced. Her driver nodded and started driving. Lavish Laila had her clothing line called Lalaluxury. Lalaluxury had everything—clothes, shoes, and accessories. Not surprisingly, Lalaluxury was very well known.

After a while, Lavish Laila’s limo pulled up to the curb of her company. She thanked her driver, grabbed her purse, and stepped out of the limo. Lavish Laila’s company was luxe and large as it stood out on the corner of McVoster Street.

The building that she had rented had nice peach-colored exterior walls and a sign with a lovely cursive font that spelled her company’s name. Lavish Laila walked into her business at ten forty-three. She was disturbed to see that there were not many customers. Lavish Laila swiftly made her way up the ornate stairs and into her office where she was greeted by her business agent, Obedient Olly.

“I’m afraid we have some . . . bad news,” Obedient Olly muttered.“We have had a dramatic drop in the number of customers.”

Lavish Laila paced through her office for a while. If Lavish Laila was losing customers that meant she was losing money, and if she was losing money, that was bad.

“How much do we have?” Lavish Laila asked Obedient Olly. When Obedient Olly did not respond, Lavish Laila let out a heavy sigh.

“Why are we losing customers?” Lavish Laila asked nervously.

“It’s the shop across the street,” Obedient Olly replied, pointing outside the office window.

Lavish Laila glanced out the window at the shop and frowned. The shop across the street also sold clothing, shoes, and accessories. The store was called RadiantRiches. The store also had a very long line.

“So,” Lavish Laila asked,“we’re losing customers to the store across the street?” Obedient Olly nodded.

“I’m afraid our only solution is to close the company,” Obedient Olly said.

“But my house,” Lavish Laila complained,” the company is the way I get my money,”.

That night Lavish Laila barely slept. Lavish Laila glanced around her humongous room and sighed. Suddenly, she had an idea, but it wasn’t the best. She just might have to sell her mansion and give up on her business. Lavish Laila tossed and turned for hours until the sun rose.

At nine o’clock in the morning, Lavish Laila threw off the covers and took the quickest shower ever in her contemporary master bathroom. Lavish Laila ran into her walk-in closet and threw on a pair of gray sweatpants, a white long sleeve crew neck shirt, and a Fendi jacket. Lavish Laila grabbed her Gucci Flashtrek sneakers with removable crystals and laced them up.

Lavish Laila met her cook, who held her breakfast, in the kitchen. “Put this in a to-go container, will you?” Lavish Laila asked her cook. The cook nodded, still surprised at how quickly Lavish Laila got ready. Lavish Laila grabbed her Versace purse. Lavish Laila met her limo driver just as he was pulling up to the curb. Lavish Laila ate on the way to her company.

Lavish Laila arrived at her business at ten o’clock sharp.

“I have a solution,” Lavish Laila announced to Obedient Olly as she entered the office. “I’m going to sell my mansion and move into a home. After that I will make Lalaluxury an internet shop,” Lavish Laila announced proudly.

“That is a brilliant idea,” Obedient Olly said, smiling.

Lavish Laila went back downstairs to tell the other employees her idea. “Good morning, everyone. We all are aware that my business is not going far. So, I have an idea. We will transfer my business online. We will now be an internet shop,” Lavish Laila announced. All the employees were silent for a moment.

Finally, one person spoke up. “Where will we work?” The other employees nodded in agreement.

“I will find you all good paying jobs,” Lavish Laila announced gleaming. The employees erupted into cheers and applause.

Weeks passed and eventually, Lavish Laila ended up moving into a house. Lavish Laila’s company, Lalaluxury, shut down. Lavish Laila also changed her name to just Laila since she was no longer lavish. She no longer owned 100 pairs of shoes nor did she have people working for her at home.

She could no longer go on shopping sprees at expensive designer stores or refer to herself as a “comfortable citizen,” but that didn’t matter to Laila because she was happy.
