Admonishing Andy

It was early in the morning on Friday when Admonishing Andy got up and got ready for his day. He got dressed and brushed his teeth. Next, he went to wake up his son Rebellious Randy (who was always disobeying Admonishing Andy’s commands).

“Get up!” Admonishing Andy said. He turned on the lights,

“It’s too bright,” said Rebellious Randy.

As soon as he was sure his son was awake Admonishing Andy said:

“Don’t be late for breakfast, or you won’t have time to eat.”

“Stop micromanaging everything I do,” his son retorted.

Admonishing Andy went to the kitchen and started cooking. he put toast in the toaster and warned the toaster that if it burnt his toast that he would go out and buy a new one. Next he poured coffee for himself and hot cocoa for his son. He buttered the toast and cut up some fruit to go with it. Just as he had finished making the meal he heard a thud from upstairs.

“Stop fooling around up there and come eat,” Admonishing Andy said.

“I’ll be there in a minute,” said Rebellious Randy.

“Hurry up,” said Admonishing Andy in a scolding tone, “or your hot cocoa will be cold.”

Rebellious Randy finally came to the kitchen and sat down to eat. “Did you wash your hands?” asked Admonishing Andy, then warned, “It’s flu season you know.”

“I know, I know,” said Rebellious Randy, “I washed my hands before I came downstairs.” They finished eating and then Admonishing Andy and his son got in the car and drove to school. Admonishing Andy dropped Randy off and went to work.

When Admonishing Andy arrived at work he was the last one there. Admonishing Andy is the owner of a big restaurant, he runs a very tight ship so he does not allow his chefs to be late. As soon as he walked in, Admonishing Andy saw one of the waiters wiping down a table. “That better be a clean cloth,” he warned. Next, he turned the sign on the door so people knew the restaurant was open. Customers started to walk in, they were seated at the freshly wiped tables and began to order their meals. Orders started streaming into the kitchen – one of this, one of that. The cooks turned on the stoves and set a pot of water to boil. It was a very busy morning and Admonishing Andy was running around warning people about all sorts of stuff, “Don’t let that pot boil over!” shouted Admonishing Andy, “Don’t let the sausage patties burn!”

After the morning rush was over, Admonishing Andy flipped the sign on the door so it said closed and met up with the staff to talk about the morning. Admonishing Andy admonished them: “I really need more from all of you! Pots were boiling over, someone could have slipped!”  One of the wait staff replied, “Maybe everyone was just stressed out?”

“Oh, why would that be?” screamed Admonishing Andy.

“Because you are always yelling at us!” said one cook.

“If you have a problem with the way I run things raise your hand,” barked Admonishing Andy. All of the employees raised their hands. “I ought to fire you all!” yelled Admonishing Andy.

“The lunchtime rush begins in half an hour, start cleaning these tables,” Admonishing Andy said as he walked around making sure people were wiping the tables correctly.

When Admonishing Andy flipped the sign on the door once more from closed to open he thought to himself, what if I am yelling at my employees too much, what if I warn everyone too much? He decided that he was going to give not yelling a try!

The lunchtime rush had begun, customers began pouring into the restaurant; it was very busy and Admonishing Andy had a hard time not controlling everyone. During the lunch rush, there were no pots that boiled over, nothing burned, none of the waiters dropped anything! Admonishing Andy couldn’t help but think that he was the reason for this success.

“Good work everyone!” exclaimed Admonishing Andy after the rush, “I guess you were right, maybe I do yell at you too much.” Everyone started cleaning and Admonishing Andy didn’t warn anyone about anything until it was time to leave. Then Admonishing Andy said, “You all better have fun this weekend, or else!”
