We finished dinner and I go upstairs to do my homework. In my room, I keep looking at the photo of when I was young on my desk, which makes me remember our trip to Mexico. On the left is my younger brother, Palmer, and in the middle is me, Indigo, and on the right is my dad and mom, Dylan and Clara. It brings back memories of the fun I had playing with my brother in the ocean. And I remember the sound of the waves against the house we had rented.

An hour passes, and now it’s 9:30 pm. My mom comes up to my room and tell me it’s time to go to bed. I get ready for bed and my mom wishes me a good night’s sleep.

“Get out of the house!” I hear my mom screaming at 2a.m. I look out  my window and I see roaring flames of fire. I run down the stairs and I am trapped. I run under the flaming hot beam of wood. “Ahhhhhhh!” I feel that I am severely burned. I get outside and I don’t see my parents. After the firefighters arrive, they come out and say they don’t see my brother and parents. I feel like this is just a dream. This cannot be true.

“I don’t know what to do,” I tell the firemen. I feel like my world is ending as tears run down my face as I watch my house burn. They say they can take me to the fire station for a little while. Once I get there, they take me to the bunkroom where I see many firemen waking up. They tell me to lie down and take a nap. Then i felt that my world ended.i fall sleep.

A few days pass and the firefighters get in touch with my aunt and uncle, Iris and Don. A week later, I move in with them. Iris and don have a daughter and a son, Olivia and Ronald, they aren’t very nice to me. I am now made of Ash and they hate me more! They make fun of how my skin is flakey, black, and crumbling. When I move I can hear my body tear like tissue paper. My cousins laugh at me and make terrible jokes about me..

My grandma comes to visit my cousins and me and she sees how badly they are treating me. She suggests to Iris and Don that I can live with her, and Don whispers, “I would do anything to get rid of her.” I am happy that I will no longer live with them, but it makes me sad that they really think that of me.

That day I go home with my grandma, Surprisingly I had nothing to take with me. Once we get to my grandma’s house, I remember the warm feeling of having Christmas and Thanksgiving there with my family and I start to cry. I remember the big family meals with my grandma’s famous chocolate cake after. I remember opening presents with my cousins in the family room with the big reclining chair that my grandma always sits in.

My grandma was very nice. She took me everywhere with her and she thought that I was beautiful for who I was. Soon after, she got very sick and she went to the hospital. I was alone at her house and my grandpa would visit during the day and brought me snacks. One day my grandpa knocked on the door and said, “I have terrible news.” He explained what’s happened and that she had passed.

I then moved in with my grandpa and we did everything together. We went to her funeral and we saw her friends and family. Then we went out to dinner as a group and we had so much fun talking and catching up.

After a month I went back to school and a lot of people made fun of me. I hated school until recess came and I met the kindest person in the world. She was so nice. Her name was Penelope and she thought that I was beautiful for who I was. Penelope had lost her older brother in a fire and she felt for me.

After school, I went home and told grandpa about my day at school. Grandpa thought it was great that I was making friends.

The next day Penelope was waiting for me at the front of school she was so. At lunch everyone was laughing at me but Penelope told me don’t listen. After school i went to her house we played in her room for hours. Then we had dinner we had her moms famous dumplings this recipe came from china when she lived there when she was ten years old. That night was the best night ever.

The End
