The birds were chirping, the busy working peoples cars were polluting, and in a small little yellow house in the upper bedroom a boy was sleeping. His alarm started screaming, he groggily wrenched his hand on the clock. He then sleepily turned his head and saw that it was 7:48 he was going to miss the bus(which usually leaves at eight).
Why didn’t his dad wake him up? Doesn’t he know that he hates being late? Did he probably have an early work day? Dad usually has many early work days now that he got shifted, from this small game show that nobody watches, to the weather channel downtown.
He got up and saw that it was incredibly sunny already, because it was the middle of fire season. He doesn’t like fire season, because it is always so hot, and drie.
He jumped out of bed and saw a note it said:
Dear Ethan,
I have to go to work early again, because you know the weather doesn’t report itself.
Sincerely dad.
He rushed to the cabinet for the cereal and got the milk from the fridge and ate it like an animal, Then he got dressed and ran like, he was being pursued by death.
he got to the bus stop the bus turned the corner and rolled right up to the stop
That day at recess he was thinking about, when he got the list of students that will be in 6th grade and what class they will be in. He noticed that his friends weren’t on it he knew there wa a chance they might’ve moved but they said it was unlikely, so when he got to school he asked his teacher and she said that they had moved!!After that her just sat around during recess.
Later in math class he thought about how he always spread his homework evenly-ish across the week, but sometimes he had after school activities, and they made it so he had to do homework really late.So he thought he would do all his homework that night.
So that’s exactly what he did, and it was terrible. He was almost falling asleep every second because his eyelids felt like a container boat, and all his limbs were groaning, He felt like the room was shaking.
The next morning he had to go to school on his bicycle, because he missed the bus. When he finally got to school he was dripping from sweat and plotted into his seat, “Ethan, why did you get here at10:25?!” She yelled as she looked at the clock, “that’s detention for being so late school started 1 hour and 55 minutes.”
When he was in detention they were supposed to write their homework over and over till it was an hour later, when the principal left ( he had a security camera without sound) Ethan looked around at the only other kid in the room was Christopher, a very outgoing kid who did things that challenged authority.
Ethan started half complaining and half trying to start a conversation, about why he’s in detention. Then Christopher started talking about why he was in detention, which was because he talked back to the P.E. Teacher, mainly because it usually came before math and he loved math, so it was torture waiting for math, and he isn’t that good at it and he is pretty bad at all the runnning part.
Ethan was surprised to find Christopher amused that he was in detention for sleeping in.
Christopher asks if Ethan wants to go to the skatepark with him.
“Ummm. . . I have never skated” Ethan informed
“You haven’t skated!!!!!” Christopher almost yelled but them remembered that the principal was watching
Ethan ends up being persuaded to go try Christopher’s skateboard; he falls a lot but ends up getting the hang of it.
They become friends.
Chapter 2
One day they were chatting at launch about what they think they got for their quiz about this book
“Ethan I wish I could change my grades because I had to finish it at like 9:42, because of my homework idea.” Ethan was saying.
The next day at lunch Ethan is sitting at their usual table thinking about the parent teacher’s conferences, when he sees Christopher ,
“Hey! Over here.” Ethan called
“Ah, there you are, I have something I NEED to tell you about” Christopher insisted.
He walked over quickly and sat down across from Ethan “what so important that you ‘NEED to tell’ me about” Ethan asked jokingly.
“ . . .Good, no one is close, okay listen, I’m going to try and sneak into school at night and change the grades on our book reports, do you want to come?” Christopher asked quietly
“wait, you want to sneak into school at night and change the grades!?!” Ethan exclaimed
“come on you know you’re terrible with your book report,” Christopher encourages “And it will be fun to see the school at night,” Christopher urged.
Ethan wasn’t persuaded “But what will I tell my dad and what if we get caught?” Ethan asked just to not have to do it “you can tell your dad you are at a sleepover and if you-”
But just then a teacher was coming in their direction, and Christopher changed the subject and talked about the game last night.
Ethan thought about it did sound fun and he was sure that didn’t include a couple things that were required to add, mainly he didn’t revise he decided that he would do it.
That night they camped out near school, and once it got dark they skated to school. The walk way led right up to and inside the school, and on it’s side big perfectly trimmed bushes looked like a huge monster with side burns swallowing the path but the bushes didn’t touch the school.
They went to the front of the bushes and waited for the janitor to leave the school.
Once he opened the school they threw a stick at him, while he walked to the front, they went around the bush. They ended up at the front, and they quickly went in, just as they got in they went right and stuck to the wall like they were glued to it.
When the janitor got back around he was looking around on the front porch of the school, Ethan could hear his breathing it was like a drum in beat ringing in his head.
Then he started going toward the door, Christopher noticed this so they both started running to the stairs just as Ethan got to the third step he heard the door open.
They ran up to their reading/humanities room and slammed the door shut once up there, Ethan started to look out to see if the janitor was there, while Christopher looked through the papers.
“Ah! Here.” Christopher announced he started changing the grades to what the really smart kid in the class had. Ethan saw the janitor at the top of the stairs coming down the hallway, opening all the doors and slamming them.
“Christopher he’s coming!” Ethan whispered as Christopher put the papers away and hid under the desk Ethan followed, “BOOM!” \The janitor Slammed the door open, looked around and slammed the door back and walked out.
Once he was gone to his house-hopefully they went as quickly as possible out and went back to their homes.
Later the next day at lunch they were eating in silence then Ethan blurted out “we should NEVER do that again”
“Okay” sighed Christopher “but that was fun” Christopher reminded Ethan/him
“Okay but it was WAY too close.” Ethan sighed.
The End
