How does social media and technology control and affect us? Let’s break it down. We all love phones, iPads, computers, TV’s, and even Alexa (well, sometimes) but how much do we love it? Now because of Covid, technology, electronics, and software, companies are making more money than ever! The reason being is because people in quarantine don’t want to risk getting the virus, so they try to connect with people without actually connecting. That’s why big companies like Apple, Google, Amazon, and Microsoft are getting a LOT of money. We can call and text and do more on electronics. It keeps us entertained with Netflix, Hulu, and other games. Sometimes we even complete our homework on it.
Right now, Apple and other phone companies are coming out with new products because you think that now that you’re in quarantine, you need the best quality of devices. But here’s the secret. You don’t. Your iPhone 6 works just fine! You don’t need to buy the iPhone 12 Pro or anything. But these companies make more money because since they’re such well known companies, people buy a lot of stuff from them. And as soon as one person buys the newest product, everyone else wants it too because they want to be in. In on the style. In on the trends. In on social media. Everyone wants to be like everyone else, so they do a lot of things to fit in. Meanwhile, getting the latest phone every time it comes out? Seriously? That’s gonna cost thousands of dollars.
At the moment, companies are getting triple the amount of money they had before this whole corona thing. Before, not many people had all these electronics; now since we do, school, work, sports, reunions… everyone needs them.
Okay, now get ready, I’m gonna start ranting about my life and my connection to this whole thing. So, basically, I am the type of person to get easily distracted and easily possessed. If you gave me the most fun subject in school for one hour, or a TV and iPad for 30 minutes, chances are I would probably go for the electronics. I do get possessed by electronics a lot, and it hasn’t helped me when I’m trying to focus in school and be productive. If my phone buzzes right next to me, I WILL pick it up. Sometimes I hate it because I realize how much time I spend on it, and I realize that, but I will keep picking up my phone. It’s like a monster. Honestly, it’s taking over my brain and forcing me to do it more and more.
How much social media do you use? How many hours are you on your phone? How long do you spend with your family and friends? What is the main app you use on electronics? Why do you think you would rather spend your time on a screen rather than connecting with your family?
I’m not saying that you should never be on screens, especially during these times, but basically what I’m saying is to cut it down. Cut down how much you’re on your phone and stop buying unnecessary items just to be trendy. Yes, it is great to fit in, but sometimes you just need to wind down and talk and be social… IRL!!
