Expertise Is for Life

When a person has a certain skill that they’re good at and practices it, it could open up many opportunities for them. When people work together, it makes the job easier because everybody has their own expertise and it helps them solve different challenges. Author Seth Godin talks about the importance of expertise, “Developing expertise or assets that are not easily copied is essential otherwise you’re just a middleman.” In The Mysterious Moonstone by author Eric Luper, protagonists Cleo and Evan proved that In life it would be best to have expertise in a few areas.

Private Eye Artie Baker needed Cleo and Evan’s expertise so he would not lose his job as a detective. Artie Baker doesn’t know a lot about solving mysteries and he hasn’t solved any in awhile. He also lied about his age in his application. Artie needed assistance so he hired Evan and Cleo to help him in the case that he was trying to solve. The case was called The Mysterious Moonstone. They need to find out who stole it. Evan is the one that puts the clues together, Cleo has a good eye for clues. On page 27 Eric Luper the author of the Mysterious Moonstone started to use repetition of the words Musgrave Moonstone.

Evan felt that whoever let the chandelier fall on them would lead him to find out who stole the moonstone because whoever stole the moonstone would want them to stop looking. Evan said what are the chances a chandelier would drop right when we were walking under it. Artie examined the rope that was hanging onto the chandelier and he found out that the rope was cut from where it was fastened to the ceiling. On page 52 right before the chandelier fell they heard a slight jingle Cleo looked up and she saw that the chandelier was falling so they ran out of the way.this is where the author used a sound word.

The protagonist Cleo is the one who found out that the glue that Beatrice used to glue the Moonstone to the clock was the same glue that she had in her bedroom. Cleo found the last clue that solved the mystery: she figured out the antagonist Beatrice Musgrave stole the moonstone and that she glued it to the grandfather clock. When they solved the mystery they found the key to get them back to school. On page 105 Chef Lilith, Cleo, and Evan grabbed the chain and letters burst from the key like a thousand crazy spiders. Then they were sent back to the school library.

Sometimes in life it is best to know people with different expertise. Just like Cleo and Evan worked together to solve the mystery of the mysterious moonstone. If Cleo and Evan didn’t work together it would have been more difficult solving the case of the mysterious moonstone. This story is a good example of how people with different expertise used teamwork to accomplish a goal.
