In Where the Mountains Meet the Moon by Grace Lin, when Minli got to the edge of the cliff, she and Dragon found out that they both had one of the hidden lines. There was no bridge to the never ending mountain though. They sat there, wondering if they were ever going to ask their questions. Then out of nowhere Dragon came up with an idea. “What if we tie the hidden lines together so we have a kid that he may reach it!” Dragon exclaimed! Minli agreed but did not think that the kite would reach the mountain. To her surprise it was longer than she thought, maybe even magical. The hidden lines started being pulled on. As that was happening the hidden lines stretched into a bamboo bridge. “Go up, take a risk,” Dragon said. Stories can be powerful enough to help you take risks to change your life.

You need to take risks, even if they are scary. Risk taking can be a hard thing but you need to persevere to get through it. For example when Minli was walking up the bridge she was thinking about how the questions would change each of her and Dragon’s life. When she got to the building where the old man of the moon lives she found out that she was only able to ask one question. She could have gone the safe route and asked her question but instead she asked dragons question because she has compassion for her friends. As it turns out she did ask the right question because it turns out the stone that was on Dragon’s head that she took home was worth the emperor.

Powerful stories can help you get the courage to change your life. An example of this is when Minli gets the goldfish and the story they encouraged her was the goldfish man saying that the goldfish will bring fortune to her house. Another example of this is when after hearing the story of the old man of the moon she decided to go and try to find the never ending mountain and change her fortune. The final example is when minli was told the story of Wu Kang and that is how she got her courage to ask Dragon’s question.

You have to set your mind to whatever you want to achieve. An example of this is when Minli decided to go on her journey she was determined to succeed and find the old man of the moon. Her parents did not believe in her and they showed that in the story because they kept switching between perspectives. If she was not this determined she would have gone back to her home just after she started but because she was determined she kept going until she reached the old man of the moon and she made many friends along the way.

As you can see from Mini’s experience in Where the Mountains Meet the Moon, stories can be impactful enough to help you take risks to change your life. When Minli got home in the middle of the night she put the dragons pearl on the dining table and went straight to bed. The next day minli was woken up by her parents. When they all went into the kitchen her dad told her that the rock that was on Dragon’s head was a dragons pearl. She was amazed but then heard cheering outside. The fruitless mountain was fruitful! No one could believe it! Minli and her family went outside and everyone turned to Minli. They were all shocked. Because Minli was gone for so long everyone thought that she would never come back. Minli realized that dragon was the final dragon to make the fruitless mountain fruitful.
