One morning, Opinionated Ocean leaped out of her cushiony grey bed to go put on her daily outfit. She wore a beige tank top with beige denim shorts. It was a simple outfit that nobody could judge; that’s why she liked it. Opinionated Ocean strutted into her plain kitchen and saw her mom gripping a plate of cold waffles, dressed in all rainbow stripes and brown sandals. Opinionated Ocean gave a side glance to her mother and muttered loudly enough for her mom to hear, “I wouldn’t be able to survive a day in an outfit that ugly.” Opinionated Ocean’s mother thought, “Why can’t she just have a positive attitude for once?”
Opinionated Ocean walked out the door and went on her way to the grocery store to buy some cupcakes for her friend, Dense Dakota. On her way there, Ocean saw a young boy who was telling everyone he could predict the future. Ocean thought that was the stupidest thing ever, so she decided to go tell him to his face. Once she had walked over to the glamorous purple glitter booth he was sitting in, he instantly started to talk.
“In order for me to help you, you must follow these guidelines,” he stated to Ocean in a high-pitched squeal.
Noticing the guidelines hanging on the wall, Ocean replied, “First of all, you sound like a dying little rat; second of all, you can’t predict the future. It’s not possible!”
Frowning, the boy said, “There will be a new person in your life that will leave a big impact if you choose the right option.”
Ocean was very confused by the boy’s words, so she turned around and continued on to the store. She prepared herself for many frightened faces because everyone was always scared of her opinions, but today was different. There were whispers, and everyone had their eyes on something else that wasn’t her. Ocean decided to forget about the cupcakes and see what everybody was talking about. Then she saw her: a tall girl with hazel eyes and light brown hair. This was nobody that Ocean had ever seen in town before. The girl walked through the crowd over to Opinionated Ocean; Kelcy thought that Ocean had stood out from everyone else in the crowd.
Kelcy exclaimed, “Hey, my name is Kelcy. I love your outfit.”
Ocean was surprised by this; nobody ever was nice to her. It felt good to be complimented, thought Ocean.
Ocean responded, “Thank you so much, and I like your hair!”
While the two of them talked together, everyone was talking about them. Nobody could believe it; the new girl in town, Kind Kelcy, and Opinionated Ocean were actually getting along. Everyone liked that Ocean was making a new friend who was super nice. Some people thought that Kind Kelcy would have a good influence on Ocean, but most people thought there would be no change in Ocean’s mean and harsh personality. For the next few weeks, the two new friends hung out.
The more time they spent together with each other, the nicer Ocean was to everyone. When Ocean was with Kelcy she felt good and happy because negative opinions weren’t given out. She still gave out her opinions to everyone, but now it was different. Ocean only said the nice ones; the mean and hurtful ones she just kept inside her head. Later that day when Ocean arrived home, she saw her mother sitting on the couch. She went over and sat down with her to watch a show. Ocean said, “I really like the show you picked out to watch today!” Ocean’s mother was surprised by her daughter’s words; she hoped this behavior would continue. From now on, no feelings were hurt anymore and everyone was happy.
The End
