“Whoa! You’re so tall!”, said a little girl to her friend. “Why are you so tall?”
“I don’t know. I just am!” responded the little girl’s friend.
“I want to be tall too!”she responded.
“Well then why don’t you just go to the store and buy a pair of long legs?!”
“You can’t just go to the store and buy a pair of legs!” she yelled back. “Don’t you know that!?” Short and Average kids don’t know what it is like being tall.
Let’s start with some bad things about being tall. Well, for me, I have to look down at most people my age. If I don’t look down, I wouldn’t be able to see them and it would be like I was staring out into space. But I only have to look down at them if they are shorter than me. Also I have to constantly hear people ask me to get things for them that they can not reach by themselves. It’s super annoying because I have to get ATON of things for people that sometimes I wish I wasn’t tall so I wouldn’t have to get it. Another reason being tall can be bad is it is/can be hard to find clothes that fit your long/tall body(s) . Usually/always when you are tall, you have a long body, so it can be hard to find clothes that fit you. For example, once I was at the store to buy some new clothes because most of my clothes at home were too small on me, but when I got into the store, all the clothes there were too small on me too because I was too tall to fit into the clothes. Well now you know what is bad about being tall.
Well, now I can tell you some good things about being tall. Being tall makes you smarter, according to an Atlantic article called The Financial Perks of Being Tall, May 18 2015, “For every two-inch increase in a child’s height, your improvement on cognitive and non-cognitive assessments is roughly equivalent to the different being growing up in a lower class family and a middle-class family.” Also, you can reach almost EVERYTHING. That can be really helpful because when you are short, you can barely reach anything, so when you are tall, you can reach almost everything. For example, once I really wanted to get a game (called Pictionary), and I could because I was tall enough to reach it. Another good thing about being tall is you can see over almost everyone your age. You might be thinking, “How is that good?”, but it can be because what if there is something that you really want to see but you can’t because you are too short, you have to be tall so that you don’t have to go through that big crowd (if there is one)and you can just look over everyone in that crowd to see that thing you really want to see. But if you don’t want to see something, and your parents drag you over to see it, if you are short, you don’t have to see it because you are too short to see it. If you are tall, you kind of have to see it because you are tall, and you can see over almost everybody. Well, here is one more thing about how being tall can be good. You can do a lot of things that most people your age can’t do because you are taller than them. For example, what if you are in DisneyLand with your class and everybody wants to go on a certain ride. But they are too short to go on it, and your not, so you can go on that fun ride. Hey, did you also know that “While every additional inch appears to be an advantage, some inches are worth more than others, according to one recent study. Among men, the sharpest jump in earnings the researchers documented was between 5’4″ and 5’6”. They found that the returns on height being the plateau around 6’0”.” Here’s one last fact.”In the Western countries, a jump from the 25th percentile of height to the 75th – about four or five inches – associated with an increase in salary between 9 and 15 percent. Another analyst suggests that an extra inch is worth almost $800 a year in elevated earnings.” I think this is true because, according to the article 10 Reasons Life Is Better When You’re Tall, tall people may be smarter.
Now, let’s end our essay with me telling you what kids say about being tall. All of the kids are always saying stuff like, “OMG! You can reach everything!” But being able to reach everything has its goods and bads. Goods being, well, being able to reach everything (obviously), and bad’s being you have to get things for people that they can not reach themselves. Another thing people always say to me is, “Why do you get to be tall and I have to be short?!” And my answer is always, “ We were just born like that. It’s not our choice if we get to be tall or short. If it was, most people would probably choose tall over short.” I also have to hear the phrase, “I want to be tall like you so that I can reach and see everything.”, a lot.
What role does height play in your life? Does it play a big or small part in your life? It plays a big part in my life, and maybe it does in yours too. If it does, it may affect your life later too. You may be tall when you grow up, you may have a best friend that is tall, you never know. I am tall, and my best friend is tall. What do you know! That may be you later in life. Maybe not. You’ll see!.
