I am from a dog that always seems to be talking
To blankets flopped on my bed in the morning
Then there are the afternoons that I spend hours
Playing in an old apple tree
With apples that taste sour and horrible
I am from a home with heavy books & envelopes
Strewn everywhere
To doing research with my friends
& biking rolling hills to going down long S

ones
I am from gooey cheddar cheese melting in my mouth as I eat Mac n cheese
To steaming hot chili that makes gooey cheese
In a bowl that is burning hot
I am from movie nights on Friday night with cheese pizza that burns my tongue
But I say, “Who cares. It is movie night!”
I am from mornings at breakfast sharing how weird my dreams were that night
I am in my big backyard looking into the uninviting PIZZA OVEN
That many spiders have made a home in,
& wonder, “Can’t we just get rid of it?”
I am from a vacation to Wisconsin every summer
NOW from THEN
It’s a whole new world
Covid-19 came it’s got the world in its grasp
Everything is different from the past
School came home and it’s like your own little Dome
Your friends have become technology
But I’ll see them in person again when this all ends
No more sports, stuck at home, my whole life seems to be gone, in a poof
But I am still a goof
I miss libraries and bookstores you see
Never thought I’d say this but I miss books, I miss flipping through them
I have books at my house
But I’ve gone through all the ones about world war 2
My birthday has happened
But I’m stuck at home, no way to celebrate with friends
I still got presents from my family
I come from a new era, an era of technology
And era of washing hands
And staying six feet apart
This is the life now and I have to get used to it
But yeah, I still want to see my friends
And go to libraries
But that’s not going to happen for a while
So I come from a new era
An era of Covid-19
This is where I’m from
